Poetry and Pot Luck 3: A Taste of Home

PYP and Poetry on a Plate

24 June | Time: 19:00 | Venue: Nomad Maison

ABOUT THE SHOW

Calling all lovers of the pen and the pan!

You are invited to bring a home cooked dish to share with an intimate audience as we enjoy an evening of spoken word.

Our celebration of food, literature and community is inspired by a taste of home, whether your home is 10 minutes or 10 hours away. There’s always something special about home; the place we were born and raised or the place we adopted.

The flavours and words of the evening will speak to this theme, bringing people together as we transcend borders through eating and listening.

Performing Poets

Sarah Orola

Sarah Louise is an Afro-Guyanese published poet and Good Chance Theatre Fellow. She performs at many festivals across the UK and at esteemed venues like Museum of the Home. Her poetry embodies the eclectic cadence of Guyanese folk songs and Nigerian proverbs. Showcasing the richness of her dual heritage to unite the diversity of human experience.

Liv Rhoden

Yorkshire based multimodal performance artist and poet Liv Rhoden is an emerging talent, drawing inspiration from the land and their background in science. When they aren’t serenading crowds, exploding things in science experiments or warping minds as their drag king alter ego Hot Pot, you can catch Liv slinging stanzas about the world we live in and the weird goings on in it. Expect emotive storytelling and surreal humour to whist you away on a journey grounded in the earth…just about.

CJ Simon

CJ Simon is a Sheffield based playwright and poet interested in how playing playing with narrative and form can deepen the political intensity of his work.

Mamie

Bred, not born, in the north of England. She writes about growing up in an analogue era. Her short story about food was published in Tales from the Kitchen, an anthology by Fox and Windmill in 2023. She won the Off the Shelf Sheffield Short Story Competition in 2024.

Nell

Nell (Poetry on a Plate) is an internationally published poet who has performed in the Netherlands, Germany and the UK. Her work can be found in Digest Magazine, Route 57, Culture Matters: We are all Palestinians, and Dahlia Book's Bring me Gold. Her poems recently got shortlisted in South Yorkshire's Young Writer's Competition.

Nell regularly performs at local events from political protests to yard parties. She runs creative writing workshops and is a member of Sheffield Writers for Palestine, PYP and Revolting Women.

Outside of writing, Nell works in local food policy and manages a social enterprise, where she helps to transform migrant women's culinary skills into paid work.

Last year, Nell brought her love of food and literature together by founding Poetry and Pot Luck with Cheelo; a now sold out Sheffield staple celebration of words, community and food.

SHALdo

I fell in love with pen and paper long before I ever cared for a mic. Poetry led me to stages, formatting itself as Spoken Word. That in turn has led me to music. Making music is quite literally my words finding a voice.

I have far too much to share about who I am, my journey, experiences and thoughts. I couldn’t dare put it in a brief bio.

Writer. Expressionist. Warrior-poet. Lover and follower of Yeshua, Jesus Christ.

Cheelo

Cheelo (Versa) is a writer and creative producer/director based in Sheffield, with a passion for the arts and a desire to shine light on the creative community within South Yorkshire. Currently managing Poets Yield Power (PYP) a platform for local poets and writers pushing local talent.

Tashinga

Tashinga is a spoken word artist, youth activist, and an advocate for change. Drawing from her Zimbabwean roots and British upbringing, her poetry explores identity, belonging, and healing. Beyond the stage, Tashinga works with young people both in the UK and Zimbabwe, empowering them through creative expression and personal development. Her passion for storytelling and community shines through both her art and her work, using her words and actions as a way to spark reflection, connection, and change.

Sile Sibanda

Sile Sibanda is an award-winning BBC radio presenter, host, spoken word performer, creative producer, and amateur DJ with over 15 years of experience in the arts and community projects. From speaking at the House of Lords at age 12 to hosting Q&As at major UK and international festivals, Sile is known for bringing stories to life on stage and on air.
