  • Side by Side is a user-led community theater charity, founded in 2008 in Sheffield.

We use the powerful tools of drama and music to bring adult asylum seekers, refugees, and local British/European residents together, building wellbeing, strong community bonds, and promoting integration.

By running inclusive weekly workshops for mixed and women-only groups (currently with members from over 12 countries), we aim to reduce social isolation and alleviate stigma. Our sessions, which emphasize playfulness, connection, and mutual understanding, generate original, devised performances. By often using physical theater, movement, and participatory styles, we overcome language barriers. We perform at schools and public venues, using our work to explore current issues of diversity and discrimination, ensuring both members and audiences have opportunities for meaningful learning and connection.

  • Open Kitchen Social Club was founded in 2014 as a social eating project in the centre of Sheffield. We provide food, peer support, and a place to meet for destitute asylum seekers, refugees, migrants and anyone in food or social poverty.
